To alter the drive to the loudspeakers, you will need to adjust the volume controls of the driver amplifiers. There are no user controls for the crossover no switches to alter the crossover frequencies nor external level controls for the output signals. The Active Crossover presented here is housed in a 1-unit high rack case with just the power switch on the front panel.

The six outputs (three only shown here three more in the right channel) each drive separate power amplifiers for the tweeter, midrange and bass drivers in your loudspeakers. Active crossoverįig.2: just 12 op amps and a few other components make up each channel of the active crossover. The active crossover approach also means you can mix 4Ω and 8Ω drivers in the same system and match the levels easily, without power wastage. And ultimately, you can end up with a system with higher performance, including much higher power levels. So you end up with a lot more amplifiers than in a conventional system but it gives you a lot more flexibility. The overall system layout is shown in the block diagram of Fig.1. Its output signals are fed to six (yep, six) separate amplifiers to drive the woofer, midrange and tweeter units in each loudspeaker enclosure. This is the job of the "active crossover". In an "active" system, we eliminate the passive crossover networks and electronically split each of left and right channel signals into three frequency bands: low, midrange and high. It involves just one stereo amplifier to drive the two speaker boxes in a stereo system. It replaces the crossover currently in the speaker enclosure.

To learn more about the F208 and F206 floorstanding loudspeakers, please read the Owner's Manual located in the downloads section.Fig.1: the block diagram shows the overall system layout. The magnetic grille attachment method completely eliminates ugly hardware on the loudspeaker baffle, so if you decide to use the loudspeakers without grilles they will look like they were designed to be used without grilles. The loudspeaker grilles are designed to minimize sonic diffraction or veiling and provide a clean, subtle appearance. These beautiful, modern enclosures are finished in high-gloss piano black or genuine American walnut in a process (developed and overseen by Italian luxury cabinet makers) that exceeds automotive finish quality. They feature strategically-oriented bracing that eliminates the possibility of enclosure-induced coloration. These fully-curved enclosures are inherently stiffer than conventional box shapes and are formed with contiguous wood layers that prevent splitting. The F206 is housed in enclosures that are similar to our flagship Ultima2 Series. In fact, this new waveguide actually increases the tweeter’s dispersion at higher frequencies. This gives the loudspeaker very smooth sound far off-axis – an important contributor to overall sound quality, providing consistent sound over an exceptionally wide listening area.
The tweeter’s integrated acoustic lens waveguide is based on a breakthrough mathematical approach that accurately matches the tweeter’s dispersion to that of the midrange transducer in the crossover region. The F208 and F206 tweeter has been created around a newly-designed motor and dome assembly that sets a new standard of transparency for speakers anywhere near the Performa3’s class. The front-firing port location expands the speakers’ installation options. This greatly minimizes dynamic compression and port-generated noise, assuring low-distortion low-frequency performance. These loudspeakers employ a sophisticated fluid-model designed low-frequency port with identical flares on both ends. Their cast aluminum frames eliminate another source of resonances that is common in many lesser-quality loudspeakers.
These precision transducers utilize ribbed aluminum cones for ideal piston-like behavior that eliminates a major source of resonances that are clearly audible in most other loudspeakers. Revel F206's low-frequency and midrange transducers feature distortion reduction mechanisms that stabilize the flux field during operation, assuring low distortion even at high listening volumes. They deliver an impressive combination of wide frequency range, uncompressed dynamic range and low distortion across the entire audible spectrum. Revel Performa3 floorstanding loudspeakers are true full-range loudspeakers that feature small footprints and sleek designs, allowing them to blend-in easily with your existing décor.
